Long term vision

Africa´s economy is rapidly growing and has been part of the main drivers of the global economy in the last few years. This economic growth also comes with a growing need for sustainable energy and sustainable development. It also comes with increased need to maintain a resilient climate that is void of CO₂ emissions. This can only come from harnessing Africa´s rich renewable energy resources, including hydro, sun, wind and others in a well-structured energy system that utilizes all the options in an optimal manner.

H₂Atlas-Africa project aims to support a green hydrogen-based economy in Africa and Germany by investigating the potential of green hydrogen production in Africa. A transition to a green hydrogen economy will open up more frontiers for the economic development of both Germany and Africa. It will create jobs, improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the people as well as reduce the impact of climate change due to dependence on fossil fuel and biomass burning.
