Technical workshop of H2Atlas-Africa in Windhoek

During a 3-day workshop taking place from 23-25 August 2022 in Windhoek, Namibia, the H2Atlas-Africa for Southern Africa has been reviewed by the regional technical committee and the local experts in the specific fields related to renewable energy and hydrogen technology.

Datasets have been collected by 60 experts that are working in 12 SADC country teams (Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe). These datasets have been processed by the team from Julich to develop a green hydrogen atlas for the region. In this workshop the submitted data have been validated and gaps identified.

A comprehensive explanation of the simulations used have been provided by the Julich team which allowed feedback from local experts to tailor the results to local preferences. This technical workshop enabled a close and intense exchange and cooperation that cannot be replaced by virtual meetings. The joint effort will identify hot spots for green hydrogen production, hence providing opportunity for the region in the global green hydrogen market.
